The cue word for this week at CASology is 'Sea' and to be honest I didn't think I would have anything in my stash to make a 'beach worthy' scene. However.....
Jaws. A movie and book that stopped me from swimming (and bathing) when I was about 10 years old because I thought that sharks could somehow make it into a swimming pool (and the bath). I thought the idea for the card was great but boy did it take a long time to get it right.
I stamped the 'fin' in grey ink with a triangle stamp from Altenew 'Sohcahtoa'. I spent half an hour trying to stamp and then cut out waves (which looked awful) when I suddenly realised that I could do them with a die. I used my Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Scallop die along the edge of some white cardstock so I was left with the negative.
I used my Mini Blending Tool to spread some Mama Elephant 'Ocean' Pigment Ink around the waves. I then spent another half an hour fiddling with some horrible alphabet stamps (from Rosie's Studio) to make the word 'lunch', which was stamped in black. I popped the wave panel up on foam tape and positioned over the 'fin'.
Da na....da na....dun dun dun dun dun....dun da dah!!!!! (my crazy spelling of the Jaw's theme song which I can't help but do whenever I look at this card!!)
Lovely sunny day so off to the park with the ball and the kids. Everyone is pretty tired as the sleepover finished late last night (I think the last kid fell to sleep about 11.30pm!). Pretty tired myself but just had to get this card in the CASology gallery to see if people recognise it as a shark....fingers crossed! Da na......
Shona, I can hear the music now...uh oh...WATCH OUT!!! Ha, this card is brilliant! That is certainly one way to interpret the cue card at CASology this week...and I think its great! Well worth staying up until 3AM to get it done! Thanks for joining us at CASology!ReplyDelete
This is so clever!ReplyDelete
I totally recognised this as a shark Shona! You are so clever!! Love it!! Now I have that theme stuck in my head!!!ReplyDelete
Fab take on the theme, Shona! Love the creative twist you have put on it - you certainly make your stamps go further. Glad the birthday and sleepover were a success - hope you all catch up on your rest :)ReplyDelete
OH Shona, what an evoking image this is!!!! WOW. Such a great CAS card that really can bring up some terror for some! What a clever, clever card! Takes the meaning of "grabbing a bite" to a whole new level!! ...LOL!!! Thanks for being a CASology friend, I LOVE seeing your creations!!! Hope your weekend is MARVELOUS!ReplyDelete
Hahaha ... so fun and creative, Shona! Anita :)ReplyDelete
Oh wow! My daughter would LOVE this! She has loved sharks since she was really little! Excellent take on the cue card Shona! So glad you joined us at CASology this week!ReplyDelete
So clever and perfectly CAS! Love this card, Shona!ReplyDelete
I think we're gonna need a bigger boat, Shona. . . for the win's you get with this clever card!!!ReplyDelete
LOL! This is genius, Shona! So glad you forfeited sleep to bring this design to life! Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!ReplyDelete
And yes, I too thought sharks would end up in the swimming pool. As for the bathtub I was more worried about Freddie Krueger!
The moment I saw the card, it reminded me of the movie 'Jaws', you are good to to get up and make a card at that time Shona! I can never do that, I need my 8 hours of undisturbed sleep..lol, I get ideas, and I just simply sleep with and only execute it the next day...I admire you!ReplyDelete
congrats on getting a HM at Casology with this stunner of a card xReplyDelete
