The Colour Throwdown Challenge # 308

As soon as I saw the colour inspiration for this weeks challenge at The Colour Throwdown I knew I would have to join in.

I instantly had a brilliant idea for a card and sat down last night to make it quickly. Well, my quickly turned into a frustrating 2 hours where every single thing I did turned to custard. I smudged ink, glued things the wrong way round, didn't like the layout...you name it, it happened. I went to bed around 12.30am with a finished card but not happy.

When I came to photograph it this morning, I still wasn't happy (it looked even worse in a photo!), so scrapped it and tried again...twice! But still they failed. The challenge had beaten me and I let it go. I took the dogs for a walk and then it happened......

I had no orange ink, enamel dots or sequins but I did have orange paper, so made the best of what I have. I used my new rainbow die for the first time and die-cut from orange, pink and yellow paper. I glued the rainbow pattern onto some white cardstock to keep it together. I then die-cut the tag with windows. I glued the rainbow to the front and stamped my sentiment at the top. This was then popped up on foam squares, a few enamel dots and finally...I was happy!!!!!

The metal rainbow die is from Paper Smooches. The tag and window metal dies are from Pretty Pink Posh. The sentiment is from Altenew 'Sohcahtoa' and the enamel dots from Papervine.

Will also link this to the challenge at Artful Crafts - September where their inspiration colours are very much the same:

Since I used the rainbow die for the first time, I'm also going to enter the challenge at Simply Create Too #69 where their theme is 'Show us something new'. This is my second entry.

And I just had to enter the NBUS #2 Challenge run by the forever wonderful Darnell. NBUS stands for 'never before used schtuff', so this card fits the bill. This is the second time she has run this challenge, last time was a huge success and so much fun, so I really encourage you to join.

Okay. One card down, two more to go. As usual I was going to go to bed early tonight but want to change a few things with my card for my first DT post at Time Out Challenges. I'm a wee bit nervous and excited at the same time.....

Take care
Shona

  2. I can understand the anxiety you are feeling, Shona, but your first DT post at Time Out will be incredible, I'm sure of it! I haven't seen a card from you yet that I didn't find to be beautifully made!

I'm so sorry that your idea for this card gave you so much trouble! That is so frustrating, but now, seeing your final card, I can see why it happened. It was because THIS fabulous card was trying to get through to you so you would make it for showing us and for entering in the challenges! It has blown my mind and I have a feeling lots of folks will be repinning this one from my pin! Thank you so much for playing in and promoting my second NBUS Challenge!! Hugs, Darnell

  6. Shona...You are just amazing and a very talented card maker and I so understand how you feel. But your cards are fabulous and I have to agree with Darnell, I have yet to date seen one of your cards that did not amaze me. I love your card and I am sure we have all done what you did, make a card, toss and repeat until you feel it is perfect and that is just what your card it, perfect! School is going well so far but with all our little sweeties, I have my first school year cold! No fun at all I have to say. Enjoy your week.
