Hi everyone and 'Happy World Card Making Day' to everyone on my side of the world!! Its a new month which means a new challenge theme at The Flower Challenge!!!
This month its all about CAS 'Clean and Simple' which means not having lots of layers, uncluttered designs and not millions of embellishments. Its my favourite kind of style so I'm very happy!!
Very excited to have CAS-ual Fridays Stamps as our Sponsor this month (I'm on their Design Team) and they are giving the winner of this challenge a $25 voucher to their store!!
For my card I was actually a bit of a rebel (well, to be honest I didn't read the rules of 'CAS' clearly enough....) and went with a black background instead of white as I needed it to punch out my rainbow colours. So totally worth it being naughty.....:
I haven't watercoloured for ages so this was a lot of fun to do (and very easy as you can expect) so a double bonus!!
I started by heat embossing the CAS-ual Fridays Stamps 'Full-On Floral Background Stamp' on a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth CS with Ranger 'Queens Gold' embossing powder. I then used a rainbow of Distress Inks and a large round brush to create the stripes across the flowers, not worrying about colours mixing etc. I dried it with my heat gun and did another layer to make the colours extra vibrant!
Once it was dry I used the 2nd largest die from CFS 'Bubble Box Fri-Dies' to cut out the flowers. I cut a panel of black CS to fit the card front and used the same die on it. I adhered the black panel on the card and inlaid the flowers. For the sentiment (from CFS 'Sassy Smiles') I stamped it on white CS with Versafine Onyx ink, backing with black CS and popping up on foam tape, along with Neat and Tangled sequins.
You have until Friday 25th October to link your projects to The Flower Challenge and if your needing some more ideas for your 'CAS' design, pop over to the blog to see what the rest of the Design Team and our wonderful Guest Designer Tina of My Piece of Paper have created for you. We will be back with more designs on the 15th of October too. Can't wait to see your projects in the Gallery!!
Take care
Shona

Loving the gold with the rainbow colors!! Stunning card design!
ReplyDeleteActually the "white" space can be a color, Shona, so using the black is perfectly okay and like you said it makes the rainbow of flowers pop.
ReplyDeleteI like that you used the black panel, Shona! It's much more impressive than a white one!
ReplyDeleteThe rainbow flowers are pretty!
really fun card, love the sentiment.
