Create Something Catchy - August Challenge

Well, I wished last night that it would rain today and my wish came true!! So no gardening today. I can do some more housework, card making and Netflix catch up so all is good!!

The theme for this months challenge at Create Something Catchy is 'Watercolour'. Something I do love to do but I'm not very good at. However I'm slowly getting better and just need to keep practicing!!

I've been trying to get thru my pile of un-used new stamps and dies and give them some much needed love:

I purchased this Concord and 9th 'Cup of Cozy' stamp set from a destash on Instagram AGES ago and kept forgetting to use it. I absolutely love the sketchy design and its the perfect size to be the star of a card!!

I stamped the cup on some Strathmore Bristol Smooth CS with Versafine black ink and heat embossed with clear powder. I then coloured with a waterbrush and some Zig Real Color Brush Pens, drying between each colour layer to slowly build up the shading. Once it was dry I fussy cut it out and added foam tape to the back.

Another product I purchased months ago was some MFT Stamps 'Basic Stitch Lines' dies and I suddenly thought they would make a great wintery 'sweater stitch' background for the cup. Using four of the dies I put them side by side and added washi tape to the back. I cut a panel of grey CS and put them thru my Cuttlebug, not worrying too much about whether they were straight or not.

The panel was put on foam tape, with the cup on top. I also clear heat embossed the sentiment (from the same set), fussy cut it out and put on foam tape, as well as gluing on some sequins from Neat and Tangled.

I'm going to link this to the Simon Says Stamp - Wednesday Challenge where their theme is 'Make your own Background'. I think this is my fourth entry....

And will also link to the AAA Card Challenge #121 where their theme is 'Friendship' as this will be going to a friend in the U.S. as they approach their chilly weather.

I better go and start some housework before I touch anymore stamps. I try to do a job, then do some crafting and alternate like that so I don't feel guilty about being home all day and things being untidy. Its not like the Queen will be visiting anytime soon but you just never know when someone will just pop in!!

Take care
Shona

  1. All your wishes should come true. Especially, when you make awesome cards like this. You know I'm a fool for dry embossing, so this one makes my eyes tingle. Unique and lovely design. Terrifically watercolored.

  3. Such a fun card. I love the background you created using edges dies. Such a fun idea and really holds the whole design with the mug in the focus. Like one of those trays you would use to serve it in. Really pretty! Thank you so much for joining us on Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. xx Ankita
