For some reason, I seem to be making all one-layer cards at the moment. Ever since I saw the theme for the One-layer Simplicity Challenge, I've been experimenting with all sorts of stamps and designs.
I have actually done this card about five times, as I kept changing my mind about the colours and word placement. I wanted to stay completely true to the 'words only' theme, so didn't add any embellishments or background colours etc. Was a really hard card to make and be happy with but finally I feel good about it.
The basic idea for the card was to start with the word 'you' and add as many words that could be used in front of that word to describe something about that person. For example, I adore 'you', always 'you' etc. A nice, happy and positive card! The 'you' was stamped in red ink and the other words in pale and dark pink. I did add lots of Wink of Stella to the 'you' but a little hard to see in the photo.
The 'you' stamp is from Winnie and Walter 'The Big, the Bold and You'. The other words are from Altenew, Fiskars, Neat and Tangled, Winnie and Walter and Simon Says Stamp.
Its time for bed I think. Just been scribbling lots of design ideas all over my trusty notepad. Its the only way I can remember any of them.
Speaking of memory lapses etc, when I checked my Facebook page this morning, I found out that an elderly local woman had been missing since 9.30am yesterday. She had been spotted, with her walking stick, walking miles out of the town, in the middle of nowhere yesterday afternoon. I thought about her all day long, hoping she wasn't laying hurt somewhere, wondering where she was. And finally I heard that she had been found this afternoon, safe and sound. Her family must have been beside themselves. I was upset and I had never even met this woman. Amazing how someone's life can touch your own so quickly.

It rained today!! Actually, it poured down and the kids and I got drenched after school. Normally this would be awful but since this is our second day of good rain for the year, its pretty awesome! I can imagine though there are people on the other side of the world that are sick of the rain or snow and dream of the sun.....
Let's hope those people join the challenge at CASology this week because the entries in the Gallery are good enough to give you a suntan!!
I do have a beach-themed stamp set but as usual I wanted to think outside the square a little bit. Whenever I think of the tropics, I think of beautiful hibiscus and frangipani flowers and the colourful birds and butterflies that fly around them. So I tried to capture this with my card:
Yep, I had another go with my pencils again. Its not perfect but the bright colours were too hard to resist! As you can imagine, this was pretty simple to create. I stamped the sentiment in black ink and then the three flowers. After stamping the butterfly I coloured it in with the pencils, adding a little Wink of Stella here and there .
Life on a tropical island would be so good right now....
The sentiment is from Lawn Fawn 'Life is Good', the flower stamp is from Waffle Flower 'Loved' and the butterfly is from Fiskars 'Butterfly Flight'.
Since I have a butterfly on my card, I'm going to link this to the Simon Says Stamp - Wednesday Challenge where their theme is 'Things that fly'.
Will also link to the Less is More Challenge # 215 where their theme is 'One layer cards - with an animal'. Hopefully that includes insects......

I have two cards due tomorrow that need some fixin' up and The Walking Dead, Revenge and Fortitude that need to be watched. Thank goodness I can do that all at the same time!! I also have some cheesecake that needs to be eaten, I'm sure I can fit in a piece of that too, somewhere......

I don't think anyone told in the sun in Blenheim (where I live in New Zealand) that its now Autumn and it doesn't need to shine so brightly or with such heat anymore. I got very sunburnt while gardening on Tuesday but only realised when I hopped in the shower Wednesday morning....ouch!!! So Autumn hasn't really started here yet and there is still no rain....
The colours for this weeks Just Add Ink challenge remind me a bit of Autumn, with the leaves eventually turning orange, then brown and the lawns getting lush and green from all the rain (hopefully...).
I'll be honest, I was a little stumped with these colours because they are colours I never use. However, it was a great chance to experiment with them and learn to use them in a different way.
I purchased a second hand set of waffle-edged square dies a few weeks ago and had this design in my head ready to go. Since I don't have any inks in the button colours, I thought it best to use kraft cardstock for my 'brown sugar' and some patterned papers for the rest. I think the colours worked out perfectly!
It was pretty simple to make. I die-cut lots of squares from both papers and arranged them over the card front, trimming back any over the edges. The squares were then all popped up on foam tape while trying to keep them in line and have the same spacing. I wanted to keep the sentiment simple, so cut a piece of white CS and heat embossed the sentiment in gold. No sequins or enamel dots needed.
Unfortunately I don't know the company who made the waffle-square dies. The sentiment is from Hero Arts 'Year Round Sentiments'. The green paper is from Echo Park 'Dots and Stripes' and the orange paper from Kaisercraft 'Happy Snaps'.
The challenge runs till next Wednesday 18th March 10pm. Hopefully this will give you plenty of time to mix these colours into something amazing that might encourage me to use these colours more!!
