Showcase Your Style Challenge # 9

I've decided that this year I need to make more birthday cards. When going back over my cards for the last six months, I seem to have every other type of card except for birthdays. Maybe I don't need so many nowadays since I see a lot of people face to face or can talk to them by way of Facebook and email etc. So when I saw the theme for the Showcase your Style challenge, I knew this would start me off in the right direction.

While staying with my Mum this weekend, I wanted to try out a technique I've been putting off for a while. I'm not very confident with my distress inks but love the effect I see on other cards in blog land. So I sat down and played for quite a while and this is what I ended up with:

I started off by stamping the different flowers and heat embossing them in white. I then set to work with my mini blending tool and chose a colour for each flower. I tried to make the flowers darker in the middle and lighter towards the petals. It was rather tricky and I need a lot more practice but love how bright the flowers look.

The flower stamp set is from Inkadinkado 'Doodle Flowers' and the sentiment from Jillibean Soup 'Birthday'.

I really seem to be in 'Spring Flower mode' at the moment, so will enter this in the Mod Squad Challenge where their theme is 'Spring Forward'. They are looking for projects inspired by Springtime.

As this is a birthday card, I will also link to the Uniko Studio Challenge # 18 where their theme is 'Birthday's'.

Since this card is for a 'birthday girl' I'm going to link this to the CAS on Sunday Challenge # 53 where their theme is 'Girl Power'.

And with finally giving my Distress Inks a good workout, I'll link to the Addicted to CAS Challenge # 58 where their theme is:

And last (but not least) I will link to the Simon Says Stamp - Wednesday Challenge  where their theme is 'Anything Goes'. This is my fourth entry.

Well, I don't know about you but after all that typing I'm exhausted. I was going to catch up on some emails and tv after doing all this but my bed is calling out to me. There is always tomorrow, although there are always more jobs to do tomorrow. I wish I had received an extra day a week for Christmas like I had asked Santa for. Oh well, maybe this Christmas.......fingers crossed!

Take care
Shona
