Reminder: TIME OUT Challenge #117

Hi everyone!! I hope your day has been a lot warmer than mine and not so windy. The wind feels like its coming straight off the snowy mountains at present and isn't very nice to garden in but its better than constant rain right??!

I'm just wanting to remind you all about our current theme at TIME OUT. We have this fabulous quote to inspire you and you can use it however you like. Maybe one of the words reminds you of something, you could create something that makes you happy or maybe this quote makes you feel a certain way...its totally up to you!!

We are very lucky to have Uniko sponsoring us for this challenge and they are giving the winner a stamp set of their choice from their store. How fabulous!!

The first line of this quote reminded me about Kaikoura. We haven't traveled to Christchurch (about 4hrs from here by car) for a long time and thought we might go down for a weekend. The one thing we always look forward to is stopping at the beach in Kaikoura to see the seals that come out and lay on the rocks. You can get some great photos, as long as you don't get too close. A few years ago Phoebe and I were jumping to a rock and we didn't see a huge seal sleeping behind it. It sat up and roared at us and started moving towards us very quickly.....I just scooped Phoebe up and ran....will never forget it!!  So I decided to create a card dedicated to more friendly seals...:

I'm so happy with how my grey seals turned out. I don't usually get too carried away with adding extra's when colouring images (not very confident at that) but decided to leave their tummies a very pale grey and add black spots....they look just like real ones!!

I stamped the two seals and walrus (from Your Next Stamps 'Sea Friends') with black ink on white CS, coloured with pencils and die-cut with the co-ordinating dies. I cut a panel of Strathmore Bristol Smooth CS the same size as the card front. I then gathered up Distress Inks 'Chipped Sapphire', 'Mermaid Lagoon' and 'Salty Ocean' to watercolour the background. I used a big round brush across the panel, creating an ombre effect to show the depth of the ocean compared to the sky.

Once the panel was dry I adhered it to the card base. To add a bit of interest I stamped some bubbles (from the same YNS set) using 'Salty Ocean'. The seals and walrus were popped up on foam tape along with the sentiment (also from the same stamp set). I then glued on some sequins from Neat and Tangled and added blobs of Glossy Accents to the bubbles to make them look more real.

I'm going to link this to the Your Next Stamp Challenge #97 where I used their sketch for this card design.

You have until Wednesday 12th September to link your projects to the TIME OUT  challenge. And pop over to the blog to see what the rest of the Design Team have created to inspire you. Look forward to seeing your projects in the Gallery!!

Take care
Shona

We have a bitterly cold wind here too - but no rain today, thankfully!

  8. Just popping in to say thanks for your kind words on my card. The white splatters are either the frantage or water onto my DI background, so not sure which you were talking about.xx
