Little Tangles Challenge - October

Welcome everyone to a new month at the Little Tangles  challenge!! This month we have a fantastic sketch to inspire you:

This is such a fantastic sketch as it can be turned around any way and it still creates a focal point. I think its brilliant and I know its going to inspire a lot of you to make some amazing projects!!

Strangely enough I was in a 'Christmas' mood when thinking of my design and I knew instantly what I wanted to do:

Finally, another Christmas card for my very small stash!! Each year I tell myself I will start making cards earlier in the year but I never do. Maybe its because I'm waiting to see what the companies release for Christmas with their stamps and dies etc. Which reminds me, have you seen the latest Neat and Tangled releases?? If not you must go and look right now!!

To put this together I started off by cutting a panel of white CS slightly smaller than my card front. I then die-cut a piece of white CS using the Hexstar Cover Plate which I glued on to the CS panel and cut off the overhang. This was then put through my Cuttlebug using a small round die from Couture Creations.

Holding the panel over the card front, I made a few marks with a pencil to show where the circle would be and using Distress Ink 'Salty Ocean' I blended over that area. I had been watercolouring with some Nuvo Mousse 'Pure Platinum' and there was still remnants of it in the waterbowl, so I used it to flick water over the Distress Ink and dab away with a tissue. This made it look like snow drops as the mousse left a sparkle behind.

On a piece of white CS I stamped the elf and presents from Merry Little Christmas, coloured them with pencils and then fussy cut out. I put the die-cut panel on lots of foam tape and on to the card front. The elf and presents were also put on foam tape, as well as the sentiment from the same stamp set. To finish off I added clear sequins and white blobs of Nuvo Crystal Drops in 'White' on the die 'intersections' for more of a 'snowy' scene'. I also added it to the elves' santa hat for a bit more dimension.

I'm going to link this to the Simon Says Stamp - Wednesday Challenge where their theme is 'Christmas'.

You have until Thursday 26th October to link your projects to the Little Tangles challenge and if your short on ideas, pop over to the blog to see what the rest of the Design Team have created for you. I can't wait to see how you use the sketch in the Gallery!!

Take care
Shona

  2. Awesome way to use the die, Shona! I absolutely love your Christmas card!! And I totally agree on wanting to wait till the companies release their stamps - that happens everytime I want to purchase something too!! :D
